Editor's Note

I know the Coleraine Club had a long and tiring week and we can only praise them for the sterling work they carried out. Saturday was a great advertisement for road racing in Ireland. As you can see, we at Road racing Ireland have given the event more publicity than any other publication, and we hope you also appreciate the sterling work we and our photographers have carried out. There is only one small gripe and that is the apparent breakdown of communication.
All the media attended the numerous press conferences on the build up to the North West 200 and yet we weren’t officially informed that, come race day, there would be changes as to how we would be trying to carry out our duties compared to last year. We were refused entrance to the winners enclosure and held back from the podium. Photographers were refused permission at Juniper Hill, Quarry Hill, York Corner and Mill Bank. These decisions I am sure, were made long before race week, but we just wish that somebody could have informed us. Our photographers could have then positioned themselves somewhere else on the course and I myself could have tried to catch the riders at another location. Still we tried to be as professional as we could and carry on with our jobs. It is a long and expensive week for us and we just want to do our jobs to the best of our ability but we need co-operation from everyone. The interactive coverage of the event was first class but there are other media outlets working at the North West as well.
Our sport has suffered again with the sad loss of both Martin Finnegan and Robert Dunlop. I just hope you and their families appreciate our poster and tributes to them.
