In our last issue I said I needed to get my finger out, change my pace and push harder from the start at the Oulton Park round. As soon as I arrived at Oulton I felt in much better frame of mind than at Truxton despite a little slip off in early practice. In the first qualifying session in the wet I was holding second fastest before eventually finishing third. In the second dry session I drooped back to 15th but there wasn’t much in it, I just needed to get a good start to build my confidence up.
Track conditions weren’t perfect but there was a dry line appearing as the race went on but the more experienced Glen Richards and Hudson Kennaugh were away with it up at the front then there was Ian Lowry. I was battling with the next group which included Truxton winner Steve Brogan, Chris Martin, Daniel Cooper and Craig Fitzpatrick. As I got used to the track conditions I started to push it harder and was well pleased to have finished sixth which gave me 10 championship points.
Then we were back at Brands Hatch for the rescheduled round with grid position being carried over from the month before. My Virgin Yamaha team have been really good with me as they have annualised all my data every time I came in during practice. They point out were I can improve and it really works. They are 100% behind me which gives me so much confidence I can’t fault them. There are just no bad points at the moment and if big Rob McEnlea’s happy then I must be doing ok.
